My wife & I booked a table for 2 for our wedding anniversary and had a most enjoyable unrushed evening.

The only slight concern was on arriving we were left at the bar with nobody offering to ask us if we had a table booked or offer us a drink. Once we had eventually been seated in the bar the service became very good.

The choice of food was excelent and quite soon after we had ordered we were shown through to our table in the Georgian dining room which was very tastefully decorated.

I had deep fried soft shelled crab for starters and this was full of flavour and was a substancial portion. My wife had the soup and again she was delighted with this.

For mains we both had belly pork, black pudding and a sausage, herd mash and a wonderful calvados sauce. Again portions were substancial (I had to finish my wife’s for her).

I could not manage a sweet but Pam had a lemon posset which she thought was the star of the show.

We enjoyed all of this with a good bottle of petit chablis and finished off with a pot (not a cup) of coffee.

All in all an excellent way to spend an evening.
