My partner and I travelled with Riviera Travel from Gatwick airport to Naples and spent 8 days based in Sorrento staying at the Grand Hotel Riviera. The hotel was perhaps not the standard of a 4 star hotel in the UK, but very clean and comfortable, had excellent facilities and efficient staff. The views of the sea and of Vesuvius were spectacular, especially at sunset. The tours which were included of the Amalfi coast, Pompei, Vesuvius and Capri were not to be missed. We opted out of the tour to Naples in favour of an extra rest day in Sorrento. We also paid extra for a trip to Herculaneum, which we were disappointed with, and a river boat trip round the island of Capri which is highly recommended. We were also delighted with the Foreigners Club in Sorrento which served excellent food and had a lovely view overlooking the bay. A special mention must be made of the extremely attentive and interesting tour guide who went out of her way to make the holiday as successful as possible. All in all, an extremely enjoyable trip and highly recommended.

Don't know about the sea temperature. Weather was pleasantly warm enough for short sleeves and summer clothes, and on two days hot enough for sunbathing by the hotel pool. A wrap needed for outside in the evening. A welcome change from the British weather!

We love this part of Italy, and plan to return. What was the weather like in May? Was the sea temperature warm then?
