Wine Tasting in the Hunter Valley

The day got off to a good start with a prompt pick up at our accommodation in Sydney. Our guide (Steve) got everyone on the minibus to introduce themselves and say where they were from, which helped get people talking to each other. There were 12 of us, from different countries across a wide age range.
After a couple of hours driving with a short rest stop we reached the first vineyard. As we approached, Steve pointed out a group of kangaroos which were lazing between the vines.
We visited 2 vineyards before lunch (Ernest Hill and Iron Gate) tasting about 14 wines in an unhurried and friendly atmosphere. Our last stop before lunch was at The Smelly Cheese shop, where we tasted some cheeses.
Lunch was included in the trip; Steve had taken our orders earlier in the day so lunch was ready quickly after we arrived.
After lunch we visited our 3rd vineyard of the day, Savannah Estate, where we tasted about 8 wines and a port.
We returned to Sydney at about 5:30pm and were dropped off at our hotel.
This was an excellent day out which was good value for money. We had selected this tour over other companies as they visit 3-4 smaller vineyards in at a comfortable pace and this worked out very well. Steve was a great guide, the vineyard staff were friendly and welcoming, the wines were good and lunch was plentiful. Highly recommended.
