This year went on our second Titan Tours escorted tour, this time it was the Treasures of Turkey, again it was excellent. We were picked up from home on time by our driver, we then went to pick up another couple who were travelling with Titan to another destination, then it was off to the Sandman Hotel at Gatwick for an overnight stay before flying to Istanbul the next day. There was a slight hitch at Gatwick with the luggage but this was not down to Titan but with the airport staff. With this glitch resolved within 4 or 5 minutes, we went to the check-in desk then through to the departure lounge. On arrival in Istanbul, we were met by a lovely, happy lady called Cegdem who would travel with us for the duration of the trip. Cegdem is Turkish, she lives in Istanbul, speaks good English and has been doing this sort of job for more than 20 years, she amazed us with her knowledge on history, geography and theology, not just about Turkey and she was keen to share it all with us and welcomed any questions. Our coach was clean and comfortable and the driver, although he spoke no English was very obliging and a steady driver. The tour was as described in the brochure, it is a very full itinerary with lots of stops to look at ruins like Ephesus, mosques, cave dwellings, Ataturk mausoleum, walk on a salt lake, amongst other sites, it was great. Unfortunately, when we were nearing the end of the tour, while traveling one leg of the journey I had a medical incident, Cegdem took control by phoning a doctor, he told her that I needed to go to hospital, the coach diverted to the nearest hospital (10 mins) where the coach driver along with another guest from the coach helped me to a wheelchair that Cegdem had commandeered. Cegdem stayed with us at the hospital while I was admitted, she also made the necessary arrangements to get me transferred to a private hospital, the transfer happened quite quickly. Inevitably, Cegdem had to resume the tour for the rest of the guests, before she left she told my wife that a private ambulance would come and take us to a private hospital and a Titan representative would come to the hospital to translate and help with the form filling and insurance. I was discharged from hospital and we re-joined the group in Istanbul on the last night of the tour and were able to travel home with the group. All in all a fantastic holiday but with a miserable end. Although this has nothing to do with this review, I would like to say: In your hand luggage: Keep a copy of your passport with you. ALWAYS carry your insurance documents with you. Carry a copy of any prescription medicines with you. Adequate funds for onward travel, if necessary. We had to pay for a taxi from the hospital to the airport, a flight from Izmir to Istanbul then another taxi to the hotel, the insurance company was acting too slowly (weekend), or, wait for the insurance company to get their act together, then get repatriated all the way home. KEEP all receipts of expenses incurred."

    An interesting trip!
We love turkey. So many places of interest there.
My son enjoyed the cheap clothing found there and bartering!
