We have just returned from our first escorted coach tour. This type of holiday was not something we thought we would like but we wanted to visit Andalucia and there is so much to see in a big area that we thought an escorted tour would mean we could see as much of the area as possible in a short holiday. Unfortunately, I have to say I found the travelling about and packing up after only a couple of nights at each holiday centre rather stressful and would not like to repeat this but it did mean we visited most of the sights we wanted to see. The tour started in Granada and I would like to return there. The Alhambra lives up to its reputation but our guided tour was rather rushed and we stayed on without the guide and spent the whole day there in a more relaxed and enjoyable way. Granada is a beautiful city and we did not have enough time to enjoy it properly. We moved on to Baeza and Ubeda including a trip to a National Park and spend a couple of days in Cordoba which is lovely but we visited on the Sunday, when lots of attractions are closed later in the day so again it was rather rushed.

We did stay for three nights near Cadiz which meant more time to enjoy the sights but by then the temperature had gone up to high 30s which made sightseeing rather tiring. The food and staff in hotels were not as nice or friendly as we are used to in Italy but that may be due to the fact we were on a tour and they thought they were catering for 'elderly tourists' which of course was not the case. The ages ranged from early 50's to 70's but everyone on the tour was very active and fit. The coach could have been more comfortable – 42 people in the group meant it was crowded and quite a difficult number for one tour manager to organise.

Thanks for your honest review of an escorted coach tour. My husband is less keen on driving as he gets older and we had thought that it might be an idea for a future holiday. Your review has made us think again as it doesn't sound as though you enjoyed it very much or that it was good value for money. Many years ago we had a holiday in the Andalucian area and we had thought returning to it on a tour similar to the one you describe. I know how beautiful the area is, especially Granada and the Alhambra and the idea of being rushed through such a beautiful city by a guide whose main concern was probably to stick to the schedule is not very appealing. I think you have just saved us from having an unsatisfactory holiday so thank you once again.
