Whilst the cruise ship Discovery is sadly due to be decommissioned I am sure that the ethos and working principles on other Cruise & Maritime ships will be similar. We liked the friendly ambiance of this smaller ship which ,for us, had adequate recreational facilities. A few were disappointed that the swimming pools were 'under maintenance' and closed though the outdoor Jacuzzis were always merrily bubbling. The ship was scrupulously clean with a friendly crew. The food was always very nice with very adequate choice and the chefs would make things not on the menu if requested. The senior crew sailed the ship very expertly though we personally would have enjoyed more narrative from the bridge about what we were passing especially when sailing through the Scottish Western Isles. The ports of call were beautiful and we enjoyed some organised excursions. At the ports where train / cablecar rides were available we found it much cheaper to 'do our own thing' These were at Flam and Bergen. We sat w ith the same folk for dinner each day and fortunately we enjoyed each other's company. The good weather and calm seas made it a very enjoyable holiday.
