First of all – the ship is great. As soon as you board you get the impression of opulence and space. What made this particular cruise special was a free upgrade to a top deck premium cabin; spacious and we spent many happy hours sitting on the balcony.

The excursions were generally good albeit a bit pricy. We only booked a few since we prefer to do our own thing on-shore, wandering around to get a feel for the places. What wasn’t clear in advance was whether there would be a shuttle service available for the ports where we docked some distance from the towns (there were, but it would have been good to know in advance).

The entertainment on board was good but tended towards repetition – different themes but similar format – dance, song, magic / acrobatics, song and dance. Some was a bit too ‘Eurovision’ for my taste.

There are two areas where MSC need to improve. The service in bars was slow at times and it seemed there were not enough staff. The food was disappointing. I expected an Italian line to be good, but most meals were average. Evening meals were acceptable, but breakfast and lunch were sometimes poor (even the Italian dishes). There were no themed meals (to reflect the countries we were in).

However, the places we visited (the Western Med) were all interesting and what was particularly good was that there was a different port every day – no full days at sea.

Having read this review, I am so disappopinted! I was told, by a previous traveller on the Musica, that the food was excellent! I'm not too bothered about the entertainment comments - we can always leave the theatre if we don't like it. Regarding the excursions - we have had real problems trying to find out (from MSC customer services) the timing details for any excursion - they seem to be telling us that the excursions go in the morning from 08:30 and then more departures onwards depending how many travellers want to go. But surely, there must be a limit to what time a particular excusion can go and we can't find out times of the afternoon departures either? It's almost as if the details of the excursions (the timings, I mean) are a secret!! Dealing with the MSC customer services is like trying to swim through jelly! Just can't seem to get a clear answer and it is obvious from their emails that language is a barrier when we try to ask questions. Not just the language, but their ability to send the wrong information has been quite noticeable. We fly to Dubai on the 26th February and board the Musica from there. I was really looking forward to it - I still am, but not as much as before we realised the problems we may incur.

Brilliant. Is ashamed that the meal is not up to scratch. Food is usually one of the attractions on a cruise.
