We chose a 10 day “Seabourn Lines” cruise, aboard “Spirit,” a relatively small ship-like vessel, (not a floating hotel block) and in June sailed from Venice along the coasts of Italy, Greece, Croatia and Slovakia. We’re in our 60s/70s and had never shared a room before so we thought a suite would be ideal. We both snored, however, and for 2 nights kept each other awake. Eventually (by pushing the beds well apart and drowning our snores with music on ear-phones) we found ways of coping.

The journey was wonderful, with unfailingly helpful staff, locally guided trips ashore, perfectly cooked and attractively presented food and unlimited drinks, as well as useful talks and lively and professional entertainment. The weather was glorious until the final day when we were exploring Venice on foot and had rain, thunder and lightning. But you can’t have everything in life and it prepared us for returning to reality (and Gatwick). The price was inclusive so we had no concerns about tips or bills. It was a most restful holiday with plenty to do but no pressure to do it. We had to diet when we returned, naturally, but we’d go again – anytime, anywhere.
