My partner and I together with our next door neighbours after going on various Thomson Cruises in the last 5 years and also last year going down to Dover on a Sllver Travel Advisor 1 day visit to the Holland America ms RYNDAM and enjoying the whole experience immensely we saw a similar offer in a Sunday newspaper to visit the Cruise & Maritime Ocean Countess for a day/night visit for £79. There was a champagne reception, 5-course dinner with wine a full evening show followed by a caberet until 1am. For another £10 you could book an overnight cabin with full breakfast which we all did! so for less than £100 each for the whole package/experience. We are fairly experienced "cruisers" but the whole Cruise Maritime experience including booking, getting tickets and welcome aboard and being shown around the ship and facilities was very "hit and miss" after saying that the meals, shows etc. were all very good the Ocean Countess is a very old ship and Cruise & Maritime are now in the process of replacing her! The only downside of the whole thing was the price of the "drinks". I had a pint of Lager and my partner had a medium wine £9.80p although we enjoy a drink (on a normal cruise would be at least 4 to 5 each in 24 hrs (we are on holiday!!) the cost would be very expensive! That is why like a lot of other travellers we are now tending to book "holidays/cruises that are all inclusive! Most American owned Cruise Lines charge for tips/gratuities and drinks sometime cost more than the basic holiday cost in the first place! So after saying that you can't beat Thomson Cruises and holidays for the best middle of the market and now Saga are really also a good buy for people of our age group lifestyle without going to the really upmarket scene so take care out there all you Silver Travel holiday friends from Dave Woodward and Vivien Smith.
