My husband and I have just returned from a Viking cruise leaving Berlin and travelling to Prague on an Elbe river cruise. On our first day we travelled by bus from Berlin to Magdeburg via Potsdam with temperature of 100 degrees to Sans Souci Palace then on to another palace which meant we arrived at the boat around 6 pm. A long tiring day. We rested the next day instead of a tour. Our next stop was Wittenburg which was very pleasant. Up to this point there was no scenery of any significance, two days later we were informed the river had run dry and we could go no further with the boat. We would be bussed for the rest of the journey. We had a lovely cabin. Good food and good weather but was disappointed to find we had to do the rest of the journey by road. All in all a very tiring 9 days, as the boat docked too far away from any towns to be able to miss a tour and go on your own way. A lot of walking involved. I would say this cruise would be of advantage to very fit people.
