Landing in Barbados a coach was waiting to take us to the ship, immegration was speedy and we soon found ourselves in our cabin with our luggage waiting. The inside cabin was small but immaculate with lots of storage space. Service was superb with flowers and sweets in the room. Also a turn down service each evening and a chocolate on the pillow. Towels were changed twice a day. A television in the room provided information on ports of call and trips that were available. There was also an accounts page for each passenger to check purchases and expenses on board so no nasty shocks on the final bill. Meals on board could not be faulted, we were spoiled with so much choice. Breakfast was on a serve yourself basis with real British bacon and bangers or continental,Food was hot, tasty and the serving area was spotless. Lunch could be a a full meal or a snack, burgers and pizza served by the pool. Afternoon tea was lovely, silver service in one of the restaurants. It was hard to choose where to eat in the evening, we had four formal nights during the cruise in the main restuarants which were very grand and menues to suite even the most discerning guest. For those not wishing to dress up the buffet restaurant was open and an American style diner for ribs or steak at no charge. There were a couple of restaurants that were bookable at an extra charge which was reasonable and well worth splashing out. We has expected to pay quite a lot for extras on board such as drinks but this was not the case. Drinks were reasonable with a special price for cocktail of the day. Tea and coffee were available any time of the day with no charge. Getting around on the Ventura was easy, although it is a massive ship there were plenty of lifts and guests in wheelchairs had no problem getting about. Disembarking and embarking was also hassle free with no queues for either. We were able to book shore excursions on board but they were a bit pricey. At ports of call there were numerous touts offering cut price trips and we took full advantage of these. We has also expected the shops on board to be expensive however special sale days made gifts to take home affordable. Entertainment was better than we had expected, not wonderful but plenty of places to go and entertainment to suite every taste, bars with singers, comedians and quizzes or somewhere quite to sit and chat. The entertainment varied from classical music recitals to theme nights eg Hawain night or 60s night where you could let your hair down and dance under the stars. [email protected] has thought of everthing to keep passengers entertained and thoroughly spoiled. The only downside to a cruise holiday is that on at sea days you have to be up early to secure a sun bed around the pool however this is logistics and not something that I think P&O could address. All in all this cruise was a fabulous, value for money experience with all ages catered for.
