My wife and cruised recently for the second time on Queen Victoria, having previously sample life on board with a short 'taster' cruise. This time we visited Dublin, Cobh, Bilbao and Brest. That said, the Victoria is such a beautiful and relaxing ship that ports of call, to us, were of secondary importance. We had a restricted view balcony stateroom on Deck 4 (booked on a "guarantee" basis) and it was excellent value for money. The only restriction was the downwards view which was obscured by the life boats and their davits. We could still see sea and sky from our bed. As it was, we had dreadful weather with force 9 in the Irish Sea and 6-7 in the Bay of Biscay so the balcony was only used once. The ship, however, was extremely stable even with a 10 metre swell. The stateroom was of reasonable size, with good storage, and was immaculately maintained by our steward. Indeed, service throughout the ship was of the highest standard – as expected with Cunard. The ship is well designed and its central feature is the Queens Room – home to a variety of entertainments, dances, balls and, of course, afternoon tea with white glove service – unique to Cunard. There was an excellent choice of entertainment throughout the ship ranging from classical to rock & roll – and the evening shows were particularly good with 2 of them having their opening night on our cruise. What have I missed? The food! This was our 22nd cruise with a number of 4 and 5 star companies – and I can honestly say that the food, overall, was the best yet in terms of variety, presentation, taste and temperature.

If you are looking for an ocean cruise offering relaxation, great facilities, fantastic service and outstanding cuisine, you need look no further than the Queen Victoria.
