After an overnight stay in glorious Vancouver, we embarked on a Princess cruise and Denali land tour, never imagining that the holdiay woud surpass our wildest dreams. The boat and stateroom were wonderful, food scrumptuous and entertainment first class in a theatre which had no obstructive pillars.

Wildlife seen included a pod of killer whales in the Inside passage. Then when we were in Glaceir Bay, humpbacks bubble feeding, bald eagles, sea lions and gorgeous sea otters carrying their babies on their tums! Bald eagels and birds galore too. All this and witnessing the carving of a tidewater glacier and stunning scenery was really special. Talks are given by on board experts too. If ever there was a cruise where it is worth having a balcony, it must be this one as we could dash outside when we heard a "sighting" broadcast over the TV.

Don't worry if you can't get a starboard cabin for the Inside Passage as there are lots of islands etc on the port side too for when you are indoors. Also, in Glacier Bay, the Port side actually gets the close up views first! The ship then turns on a sixpence to show the other side. (Of course if you are up on deck, yo can see it both times.)

Princess's slick organisation came into lay for the land tour, with our unwanted lugguage being transported to the last Fairbanks hotel and a smooth transfer on to Princess's own wonderful domed train car carriages for the 9.5 hr journey. With food & drink served to your seats or in the restaurant, nature talks and a bar, this scenic journey flew by – don't miss stepping out on to the platform between carriages for an authentic feel and breath of fresh air!

Princess Wilderness Lodge was good accommodation & although tours into Denali Park were available on the day, we had made sure of ours by contacting Denali on line and pre booking them. Dreadful old school coaches are used but you forgive that when you see your first wolf, bear or moose. Even the snowshoe hares are cute. ( I should say that the coaches are run by Denali park, not Princess.)

Fairbank's River Boat Discovery sounded a bit tacky but turned out to be one of the highlights of the land tour with its enthusiastic staff and presentations. We also saw a demo of huskies pulling a summer cart from the boat & then had the chance to meet them & ask questions afterwards at the mock Indian village.

All in all, an amazing trip and so far, our best holiday ever!
