M/S Marina, the long awaited new ship from Oceania Cruises, the food lovers cruise line (quality not quantity!), did not disappoint. It was such a thrill to be among the first on board when she launched in January 2011 – even the hair driers still had their tags on them! But with an international crew who continually greeted us with friendly smiles, she will undoubtedly stay pristine as cabins were continually tidied and we were never far from a helpful waiter.

The food was, indeed, exceptional. As good as the finest on-shore restaurants. We dined on Italian fresh pasta, with oils sourced from Tuscan farms who produce specifically for Oceania Cruises, enjoyed melting, aged beef in Polo Grill, and tasted Asian fusion dishes in the cruise line's new restaurant, Red Ginger. Crispy noodles were a new discovery for me and being given a choice of chop-sticks by our waitress was fun! (I chose red ones). The great thing about the food is it really is about quality, not quantity.

This is very much an adults cruise, though my young daughter who has been brought up with older company was warmly welcomed. There are no kids' clubs, in fact the only `club' is the CanyonRanch Spa Club! My pink toes and soft feet are the creation of a lovely pedicurist and were done while I gazed out at sea at the far horizon.

As we crossed the southern point of France winds of up to 50 mph made walking on deck impossible, but inside the warm, sumptuous interiors, we hardly felt any swell. The ship is so stable and a credit to the Italian ship-yard where her sister ship, Rivierra, is currently under construction.

Well done Oceania Cruises, she is a gorgeous new baby and we'll certainly cruise with you again.
