I think most of us know the big problem with Florida, there's way to much to see, do and savour. It's addictive and it leaves you wanting more, far more.

We spent a frenetic fortnight in Orlando trying to cram every second with experiences. We couldn't have done more without succumbing to exhaustion or worse. You forget you're bordering on falling down where you stand or going to sleep on a white knuckle ride, the andrenaline gives you one last gee up to keep going. Then you get home and your friends say, 'did you do this, did you see that' and you realise you've just scratched the surface despite your best efforts.

Just how do you shoehorn everything Florida has to offer in a lifetime, nevermind a fortnight. And a fortnight with kids who might want to do something entirely different. And that's another one of Florida's great conumdrums, it's diversity. I was incredibly fortunate to watch the launch of a space shuttle when I travelled alone many years ago. But would even this spectacle dissuade a thirteen year old away from Universal Studios? And how does a leisurely few days in the Keys compare with those thundering thrills at Blizzard Beach?

The Everglades, Disney, Busch Gargens and Seaworld, a bewildering array in the most literal sense.

Nobody is ever going to claim you can do Florida on the cheap. The Americans are the world's best in dressing up extracting money as something entirely different, fun ! You come home wondering whether you could really afford it and if you've overspent, but at the same time you aren't particularly bothered and feel guilty at even pondering such notions.

In fact the moment you get back to normality, you set about making plans to return to see another chunk of it. Especially with those friends who somehow seem to have taken in so much more of the place, despite your heroic efforts.

We did a family holiday to Orlando when our children were young. We visited the many theme parks, but the highlight was going to the Everglades on an alligator hunt! It was night time and I remember looking out whilst on our boat for yellow eyes! Our guide leaned out of the boat and pulled in a baby alligator! My boys still remember it as though it was yesterday!
