I stayed at The Mill Hotel in Chester which is within a 10 minute walk of the city centre along the canalside. The Mill spans the canal and is a great hotel, well priced, with a lovely restaurant and bar and for a real treat they also do spa treatments! (I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a facial) The Mill also offers meals onboard their canal boat, although I didn't try out this as February is probably not the best time for a canal trip.

Chester is an absolutely beautiful city and is one of my favourite places to visit in the UK. A walk around the city walls is a real treat as this is one of the most complete city walls in the UK.

The shopping experience here is also brilliant, although be warned, the shops are on two levels and the steps up to the top level are old and worn. The main shopping street is cobbled too so wheelchair users or those with mobility difficultlies may find this difficult to navigate. A better option for disabled visitors might be Cheshire Oaks shopping village, approximately a 15 minute drive from Chester city centre. Here all the shops are on one level and as this is a designer outlet the prices are great!

Chester cathedral is worth a visit and the Roman ampitheatre is also very impressive. Although this visit was in winter I love Chester in the summer holidays when they have a Roman Centurion marching children around the streets chanting in Latin.

Although the buildings in Chester are mostly rebuilt in a tudor style they do look very authentic and add a brilliant atmosphere. In addition to liking chester in summer I also love to visit just before Christmas when they have a christmas market in the streets.

One more plus is the public transport from the Railway Station to the city centre. It's perfectly possible to walk this (about 30 mins at a slow walk but across some busy roads) but if I arrive by train I hop on the mini shuttle buses which transport you free of charge into the shopping area.
