Fly down to Nicewith Easy Jet from Gatwick or Bristol in time for lunch on the beach at Juan Les Pins, watching the mega yachts go out to play. Having hired a car at Nice airport, drive up into the hills to the famous medieval village of St. Paul de Vence. Stay at the famous La Colombe D'Or with its own swimming pool, stunning dining room & lovely terrace. You may see Roger Moore, Richard & judy of TV fame or a Rolling Stone & others. Famous for Al fresco Sunday lunches on the terrace or the never changing menu which works so well in the impressive Dining room. Be sure to book, because it is very popular. Try the amazing hors d'oeuvre as a starter & the roast rib of beef is delicious. The Grand Marnier Souffles are set alight in front of you & are completely irresistible.

Next morning have a coffee at the Cafe nearby & watch the locals play Boules. Head up to Vence & the colourful market. Buy delicious goodies for your picnic & drive up the hair pin bends to the Canyons, Gorges du Loup etc. If you enjoy the pine scented drive, go up the Route Napoleon & imagine the great Commander with his elephants, coping with that hostile terrain. Enjoy your picnic amongst the wild thyme, rosemary & pine trees with the intoxicatingly fresh air. Driving down is even more hair raising but beautiful.

Have a swim to refresh yourselves & take a walk round St. Paul at night, lit up & free of all those tourists. Buy local honey, herbs, lavender bags etc. If you like paintings it is a famous enclave for artists & a must see museum is the Foundation Maeght which has regular exhibitions on. If you want to drive down to the coast for seafood, head to Cannes & enjoy one of their many seafood restaurants which are very lively at night with amazing seafood platters.
