We travelled to Tucson via Phoenix in Arizona. Tucson is a lovely city to visit in the late winter and early spring as it is warm (but not too warm) and the desert flowers are beginning to appear and it is so beautiful.
Accommodation is very reasonable, there are many golf courses and, of course, dude ranches if that takes your fancy.
We hiked in the mountains which surround Tucson, among the giant saguaro cactus plants. The Saguaro National Park near Tucson has some wonderful specimens. We hiked to an old western town and we visited the Titan Missile Museum which is absolutely awe-inspiring.
The Desert Museum and Old Tucson are places not to be missed and the Pima Air and Space Museum are a staggering sight to view. A walk along Sabino Canyon is a must but, if you are not feeling up to the climb, there is a land train that will take you there.
Try some wonderful steak in one of the many restaurants. They are unpretentious but you get the best steak you have ever tasted.
Tucson may have spread out a little along the valley floor but the houses are low and do not rise above the vegetation which makes it all very beautiful. You will see road runners, coyotes, mountain lions and even javelinas in the gardens and the humming birds are never far away. You can ski up at Mount Lemmon in the Catalina Mountains in the morning and bask in the sunshine in Tucson in the afternoon. This truly is a place for everyone.
