My first holiday with Riviera Travel was an 8-day coach tour to Lake Garda, Venice and Verona. I flew from East Midlands Airport with RyanAir – a first on all counts except for a previous visit to Venice with my daughter about 10 years ago. Since that time my arthritis has increased and I now walk with a stick so I knew this holiday would be a challenge, travelling alone too. However I have just returned from one of my best ever holidays, thanks especially to a most considerate tour guide and several very helpful new friends on the tour.

My hotel was the Brione in Riva, a charming lakeside town where I had a lovely double room on the ground floor. The family who own it were very friendly, the staff excellent and we had superb food too. The holiday included a tour of most of the lake, an amazing ride up in the beautiful Dolomites with visits to ski resorts, a wonderful wood carving exhibition, several lovely lakeside villages, and of course a three-hour ride to Venice with a guided walking tour and gondola ride with time for a quick lunch and in my case a visit to the Doge’s Palace which was too much for my mobility levels with huge staircases. I did however have a brief look in the designer shop windows and a few souvenir ones with lovely Murano glass, jewellery, masks etc. the little streets reminding me of my old hometown of York, which I still visit when I can.

The other highlight of the tour by motorways through endless vineyards was to Verona, which has an abundance of Roman buildings including the Arena used for operas now, huge squares to enjoy people-watching, a wide river, art galleries and Juliet’s balcony too. A wonderful city, to end an excellently organised tour, where our guide gave endless fascinating information and lots of amusement too in her lilting Scottish accent. I would definitely recommend Riviera Travel for anyone able to cope with a fast-moving programme and a good deal of guided walks but there were a couple of optional free days in between.

I have been a Riviera Travel client for many years now and I can confirm what Yorkie says above. I have toured with them, had river cruises with them, both as a single person and with a friend, and every time has been a delight. The organization is second to none, the tour guides as near perfect as possible, and the pace seems to suit everyone.

Thanks for the info. I have been to Venice and Verona but would love to go to the Lakes as well.
