Unreasonably expensive but a fair refund policy

I booked a 2014 holiday for two with Saga (aka Acromas Holidays) on 18 August. On the following day, I discovered a near-identical holiday with Jet2 Holidays -same dates, same flight, same hotel, same room, same board at £750 less for the fortnight. Note that the only extras in the Saga offer over the Jet2 one were a fortnight's insurance, a resident rep and "the Saga lounge" in the hotel. I rang Saga, who would not budge on price, but finally did offer me a full refund of my deposit of just over £1,000. Morals: 1. The Saga promise of "unbeatable value for money" is untrue. Check the competition carefully before booking. 2. However, the Saga policy of offering a full refund for cancellation during a 14 day cooling off period is excellent and well above their legal duty (the distance selling regulations do not apply to package holiday bookings).

    And I have to say my one experience of a Saga lounge does not make it worth the extra cost.
