Entry through the big double gates is your pass to a great holiday in Freshwater Bay Hotel with HF Holidays. Hardly time to unpack bags as afternoon tea awaits or activities for the children begin … in various places inside and out of the hotel. It’s situated in huge grounds with various play areas adjacent to (fenced off with gate) cliffs and sea. Sea smells, fresh wind but so invigorating. So much to do – where to start. Order your three course meal for the evening and check sandwiches (or similar) required for the next day. Organized games or the outdoor swimming pool – already nearly full and sounds of fun and laughter! Next to the Daisy Cafe, if you want to sit and watch or by the french doors opposite the bar! Take your pick of everything on offer. A wonderful experience, great staff (Manager – Tony, the best!) Our fourth visit coming up.

Perhaps my wording of `route marches` was rather strong but I think that it depends a lot on the leaders. On this particular holiday people we were sharing a table with in the evening and had done many HF medium walks previously had not enjoyed themselves on this occasion because they were not allowed to stop for refreshments etc. with one leader in particular. We will continue to do self-guided walks on HF holidays so we can change our route as we go along and not upset anyone else by lagging behind, but I realise many people enjoy the guided walks; my brother-in-law and his son have done many over the years.

in my experience there have always three walk available each day in the UK.
easy approx 6 miles. medium app 8-9 miles and harder app 12-14 miles
the easier walks are certainly not route marches and I've had plenty of time to stop and explore enroute, stop and admire the view or even stop for a cuppa or something stronger!
Only the hard ones have been route marches.

I've been on 4 HF holidays to date - 2 in the UK and 2 Discovery Trips abroad. I actually won the HF holiday at Freshwater and I'd always wanted to go there since walking past once on our way to Tennyson Downs and seeing the swimming pool and the wonderful location. Tony was there when we went and I've never seen anyone work so hard. We did self-guided walks because we don't like route marches and prefer to stop and look at the wildflowers and views when we want.

I love HF holidays. I've done a couple of walking ones and am now considering this particular one for solo's over New Year. I've heard other good reports of the IOW HF

What exactly do you do here? Do you go off and do your own thing or are there organised walks as well as the attractions around the hotel?
