New chef, new decor, new fixtures, new furniture. Food still excellent, service still excellent, value still excellent. Simple as that. This restaurant would be 5 star if it wasn’t for the accessibility. Little can be done as the entrance is up a flight of stairs and, as the name suggests, above a row of shops. It is worth the effort as it is consistently excellent.

Yes I suppose so but with none of the “pretentiousness”. The atmosphere mid-week is intimate and cosy, at the weekend it is busy but relaxed.

Thank you - so more haute cuisine than 'pub grub'?

I had crab salad with apple and pickled cucumber, the wife had seared pigeon breast. For mains we both had turbot with sauté potatoes (mmm). We finished with blackberry panacotta with ginger ice cream. All this washed down with cracking bottle of New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
