On a recent trip to Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada, we found ourselves struggling to find somewhere to eat after 7:00 pm on a Monday evening. As we were heading back to our accommodation we kept passing places that closed at 7:00. We were thinking we might have to head to the ferry port in order to find an open restaurant. On the outskirts of Mindemoya I saw a sign for Mum’s Restaurant and Bakery. Just going by the name, I thought if anywhere would take pity on six hungry customers, it would be Mum’s. The restaurant is on the main highway through town and they were just closing for the night. However they agreed to stay open long enough to make two pizzas for us to take out. As they continued their clean up for the day we could smell our supper cooking. The pizzas were delicious: mushroom, tomato and pineapple; and pepperoni and cheese. The boxes kept me warm as we drove ‘home’ to eat the pizzas around the campfire. My sister also picked up some muffins for breakfast the next day. Thanks Mum!
