With a 4 day First Class Rail Swiss Travel Pass we spent the 3 nights in Switzerland.

Taking a flight from LHR with Swissair to Geneva, arriving late afternoon we then took the train to Zermatt via Briggs arriving late evening in time for supper.

The first class seats made the journey extremely comfortable for such a whistle-stop tour.

Staying at a lovely hotel we woke up and took breakfast the following morning with a view of the Matterhorn from the dining room. We had time to browse a few shops and then take the train up the Gornergat which over looks the magnificent Matterhorn. Lunching in the sun on top of the world with magnificent views of this mountain whilst the snow lay all around.

Later that afternoon we went on to Engelberg, briefly stopping in Lucerne.

A modest old hotel in the centre of the town with quaint shops, this was prior to Christmas and the shops were decorated accordingly.

Engelberg has a magnificent old monastery with a restaurant and you can watch them making cheese. Later that day on to Montreux stopping off outside Lucerne at Hergiswil to visit the wonderful glas factory there where they have a wonderful shop and you can buy their wares as well as watch glass blowing demonstrations.

Arriving early evening, our hotel was on the side of the lake and we had time for a late supper and short walk around the town.

The following morning we browsed the Christmas Market along the shores of the lake and also saw the statue of Freddy Mercury.

Enjoying a super lunch in town before taking the train back to Geneva Airport for our evening flight back to London.

Whilst it was only a short time in each place, with the comfort of the travel, it was well worth it.

Time to take pictures of the snow, do some shopping, enjoy the wonderful Swiss cuisine in such a short time!

The cost of the plane ticket and hotel amounted to about £250 and the rail ticket is about £400 each. But as the ticket was a gift it made it a wonderfully trip.
