I have just returned from four nights in Tallinn, Estonia. Everything about it was magical.

The Old Town is like a time warp. The cobbled streets and old houses were like something from the middle ages, as were the young people dressed in medieval costumes selling honey flavoured almonds, and inviting people into the Olde Hansa restaurant – an experience in itself which warrants a separate review. During our four days in March we experienced both snow and sunshine, and both were delightful! Although the temperature was very cold we were able to sit outside in the town square on our last day (albeit wrapped in blankets!). The covering of snow gave the city a lovely Christmassy feel and some of the photos that I took would make very good Christmas cards. I must get my creative hat on before December!

We found the Estonians to be extremely welcoming and hospitable everywhere we went, and all of them seemed to speak excellent English – even the older generation. Despite the medieval feel of the old city everywhere was very up to date technologically and we even had computers in our rooms with free internet access – a first for me! The public transport was cheap, frequent and easy to negotiate; the streets were litter-free; the restaurants and cafes were plentiful; in fact there is nothing that I didn't like! I would definitely go back there.
