The seedy side of Edinburgh depicted by Ian Rankin in his Rebus novels is now thankfully consigned to history. You can however still relive his most famous moments with a leisurely pub crawl followed by a gentle stroll through the Botanical Gardens.

Our favorite haunt is Cramond Beach frequented largely by locals who have manged to keep its beauty a well kept secret. With its spectacular views over the Firth of Forth and its impressive Bridges.

With progress on the city's tram system nearing completion a short break will be long term rewards.
