Having won a days tuition at the Krua Thai Cookery School I was slightly reluctant to actually go…I had to pay for our flights, hotel and spending money and was not sure it was going to be worth all the trouble. But as we loved the food so much we thought we would make the effort and we made our booking with Premier Inn and packed our bags. I hadn't been to Edinburgh for about 20 years and was worried it might not live up to my memories but I needn't have worried. On landing we were greeted by a total lack of public transport to the city centre due to a "fun run" scheduled for the next day..however the weather was beautiful and we headed off out arm in arm to explore the neo classical Greco-Roman architecture…it's grandeur is quite breath-taking, literally as there are many hills, steps and cobbles to be conquered. The city is as compact as a good haggis and when it gets too much you can sneak into the Whiskey Experience next to Edinburgh Castle and learn all about the gold stuff finishing off with choosing your own particular variety. It turned a whiskey hater (me) into a lover and buff! In just a day you can visit all the must haves and still have time for a great night out in the city centre which is a mixture of historic watering holes and trendy eating places. The next day we visited Krua Thai for lessons in Thai cookery which is our favourite food. The lady who runs this private school is Ru and she is a true professional. We enjoyed a fantastic day learning everything you need to know, ironing out the mistakes of a lifetime. I now know why my noodles were always soggy and why my Thai never really tasted authentic. After feasting on our labours we felt like Kings and were driven to the airport by Ru herself. It was so authentic I felt like I had been to Bangkok for the weekend. I wholeheartedly recommend Edinburgh and Krua Thai for a fantastic fusion of cultures and fun.
