We had a 10 night all inclusive holiday at Puerto de la Cruz on the northern coast of Tenerife. The hotel Bahia Principe San Felipe was superb, right on the sea-front adjacent to a lovely coastal frontage with wide boulevards, a superb lido and a variety of indoor and outdoor bars and eateries. The streets running in from the sea-front have colourful, authentic Canarian architecture and a range of lovely shops with jewellery, clothes, etc all at great prices.

The black volcanic shingle/rocky beach is not pleasant for paddling/swimming unless you wear foot protection, but most of the hotels have lovely pools. The climate in the north of Tenerife is pleasanter than the baking hot south, with some cloud over the impressive volcano, Mount Teide, and there is a range of family and elderly friendly tourist attractions such as Loro Parque, the parrot (and more!) zoo, an Orchid Garden, and if you travel further afield a lovely modern water park, Siam Park.
