For decades, if not centuries, the Great White Shark has frequented the delightful bay of Fish Hoek on Cape Town's False Bay coast. But only in more recent years have there been attacks on bathers or surfers. But the Shark Spotters now keep vigil, and there is always a flag giving an update on whether a shark's been spotted or not.

But even if you decide not to venture into the breakers, Fish Hoek boasts the finest beach on the Cape Peninsula, and we're inclined to agree. And beside that, and built on the rocks at the side of bay, is the half-mile long Jager Walk, fondly known as The Catwalk. It makes for an easy stroll, for early morning or at sunset, and any time between.

If you're visiting the Cape Town area, Fish Hoek is a must.
