I have just come back from a long weekend in Cornwall. I based myself in Penzance where I was able explore the neighbouring quaint villages, beautiful beaches and rugged coastline, plus partake in the local good old fashioned cuisine – the Cornish pasty!

The pasty was originally devised to feed the miners working in the tin mines and was filled 2 thirds with traditional savoury filling (meat, potato and turnip) and one third sweet (apple etc). Therefore, it served as a main meal and a dessert in one!

Cornwall is truly an exceptional County, as it is steeped> in history of smuggling and wrecking and hosts some of the magnificent landmarks of the world, notably St Michael's Mount. The Minack theatre is another delight – open air and built out of granite over looking one of the most beautiful bays in Cornwall, Porthcurno. Plays/concerts are held during the summer season by local theatre groups.

10 miles from Penzance is the old fishing village of St Ives, nowadays it is a thriving, bustling town which hosts the Tate Modern gallery. St Ives is an artists paradise, it is known to have the best light for painting and attracts professionals and amateurs alike. St Ives has narrow cobbled streets and houses an array of eateries to suit any palate. Strolling around on a summers evening is reminiscent of any Mediterranean port.

Cornwall has so much to offer and would suit any one and any age. Families can enjoy a seaside holiday (weather permitting) or explore the rugged coastline and magical coves and picnic in picturesque surroundings. One may choose to simply enjoy the laid back and calm pace of life which is Cornwall, enjoy walks in stunning locations or just experience the local cuisine and relax – "andsome" as the Cornish say!

I would certainly recommend a visit to Cornwall.
