Review: Dorset
City/Town/Region/Island
Dorset, United Kingdom
A county to visit

The county of Dorset (in the mid South coast region of England for the benefit of overseas visitors) has an unexpected range of attractions including cultural, historic, and scenic. There is the famed Jurassic coastline, now a World Heritage Site, the memories of Thomas Hardy at his birthplace and in the County Museum in Dorchester, the history of the Isle of Purbeck and Corfe Castle and the resort attractions of Bournemouth, Lyme Regis and Weymouth (which stages the yacht-racing events of the 2012 Olympic Games).
Then there is the entertainment complex of The Lighthouse in Poole which is now home to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, one of Europe’s top orchestras and with a new concert hall which is among the finest in the country. It is well worth checking out the website (www.lighthousepoole.co.uk) to discover whether your visit to Dorset coincides with a BSO concert and a programme which suits yours taste in classical music.
