My wife and I travelled to North Cyprus this year for a week's walking in the mountains. April in Cyprus is a perfect month for walking; cool in the shade of pine trees, with bright sunshine every day. The wild flowers are in bloom – including the wild orchids – and the walks took us to medieval castles, across beaches and, most importantly, to some excellent restaurants off the beaten track. Our guide, Christina, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of local flora, and was also hugely informative on Cyprus's extraordinary history. We stayed at a very pleasant hotel, the Bellapais Gardens, near Kyrenia, an ancient town built around its harbour, which is full of excellent fish restaurants. We also visited the capital Nicosia, a fascinating city full of unexpected reminders of Cyprus's past. We found North Cyprus an intriguing and immensely refreshing destination; its people are warm and welcoming, and the country is largely free from the overdevelopment which blights many corners of the Mediterranean.

Sounds lovely. Have you read Victoria Hislop's latest book 'Sunrise' all about Cyprus & the dreadful Times in the passed.
