Review: Seven Seas Explorer
Cruise - Ocean Cruise
Spend a lot
The is the first time I have travelled with Seven Seas Cruise Line. Our journey was from Cape Town to Rio across the South Atlantic. We joined the ship in South Africa and I must admit the initial queuing in the terminal did not leave a good impression. But when we boarded the ship that all began to change. This ship is luxurious throughout.
Cabins extremely well designed with a balcony to accommodate two large wicker chairs and a sunlounger just in case you wanted some downtime from all the activities, The ship itself is well designed and carrying about 850 passengers (it was not completely full on this sailing) and you could not get lost unlike some of the mega-liners. The entertainment was excellent with a variety of acts to suit all tastes.
The staff were superb in general but the main restaurant did not seem able to seat us on a large table as requested several times. I believe the girls were too busy smiling sweetly to remember individual requests. It is my belief that meeting new people when dining and chatting makes a holiday experience. The stops were badly planned in my experience and the real place of interest which was St. Helena where Napoleon was imprisoned for some 6 years before his death was visited on a Sunday when there was nothing to see except the house he lived in. The shops in the main town were closed which was a pity as this island definitely needs tourism.
Rio was busy and extremely hot and we managed to see a little of what this fascinating resort has to offer. Next visit I will stay a little longer there.
All in all this ship has every amenity one could wish for but a little more detail to the free excursions on offer would have given it a full 10 out of 10 instead of 9.
