We booked through Cosmos to use Tesco vouchers as part payment so good value. We flew to Lyon, were met at the airport and taken to the rivers side to join the cruise on the vessel Camargue. The cruise started in Lyon and for seven days we cruised on the Rhone and the Soane visiting Macon, Tres Vieux, Arles, Avignon, Viennes, the Camargue and Marie sur La Mer.

The guest were mostly a mix of English and French but all staff were fluent in both languages.

The package was all inclusive for soft drinks, tea coffee, table wines, local beer spirits and cocktails. The staff on board were attentive and friendly ensuring we all had a great time. The food was varied and delicious – and although I am on a Gluten Free diet the chef catered for me offering similar dishes in most cases.

At all the stops there were optional excursions providing the history and culture of the region or shopping opportunities.

Entertainment was provided in the form of daily quizzes some deck activities and a couple of evening shows.

Thank you, that is helpful. 3-4 hours gives plenty if time. From what you are saying, I assume the ship gave out maps for each place?

The trip started and ended on Lyon
We moored at a different town each night and sometimes stopped at a place after lunch too.
3-4 hours at each place most had a walking excursion from the mooring, so you could do your own thing with Map provided. Some coach trips where greater distance eg in Lyon to the Camargue and Marie sur la mer.
Excursions all taken up mostly walking tours and as above. Yes worth it but these are all Roman towns so the history is a bit repetitive.

The scenery was a bit the same between towns lots of vineyards and quite a few locks but still interesting.

I’ve been thinking about a Rhone cruise so would welcome the chance to pick your brains on this one...

Did you return to Lyon, or was it a one way trip and if so, where did it end?

How long did you have to visit each of the different places? Were they walkable from where the cruise ship was moored or did you need transport to get into the towns? Was it possible to go off and ‘do your own thing’ at each of the places or are you tied into the guided tours? Was it just one stop per day?

Did you go on any of the optional excursions and if so where did you get to/ Did you think they were worth it?

What was the scenery like - was there plenty of variety? I did a Rhine cruise and the trip through the Rhine Gorge was stunning, but the rest was bit ordinary as you were sailing through a very wide and flat valley with glimpses of the Black Forest through the tree lined banks.
