This was our second time on the beautiful Infinity so it felt like we were at home as soon as we boarded. We stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn at Port of Miami as it was closest to the port and we awoke at 4am (jetlag!) and opened the curtains. We soon saw the ship arriving. We looked at the Port of Miami webcam on our iPad and it was exactly the view from our window! How exciting! The cruise had 6 ports of call – Cartagena Columbia, , Puerto Colon Panama, Puntarenas Costa Rica, Purto Quetzal Guatemala, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – as well as the full transit of the Canal itself. Each port was very different and we really enjoyed the variety. In Cartagena, we found a Hoho bus right outside the port which included a guided walking tour of the Old City. At Puerto Colon, we had booked a private Jungle Land Adventure where we went out on a boat on the Gatun Lake and motored along with the huge ships. We also saw a lot of native wildlife and had monkeys climbing all over the boat at one point! At Putarenas, we went on an Eco Adventure which was another boat trip but this time we saw at least 56 different species of birds and some huge crocodiles. At Puerto Quetzal, we went on a self guided tour of the ancient capital of Antigua. Once again, we found a Hoho bus and had an excellent tour of the city including a visit to the cross above the City which had a wonderful view. Puerto Vallarta was where we found a free walking tour provided by the Local Tourist Board and learnt all about the area. And at Cabo San Lucas, we joined a boat trip out to Lands End and saw sea lions. The highlight was definitely the Panama Canal transit which took all day. Going through the first locks up to the Gatun Lake, we were on a high deck of the ship and it was amazing to see the Mules keeping the ship straight. We went through alongside an enormous container ship. We then sailed across the Gatun Lake and saw some of the sights we had already seen on the Jungle Tour the day before. When we started to go through the locks at the end of the crossing, we decided to watch from the Promenade Deck, low on the ship. It was amazing when the dockside quite quickly went from below us to way above our heads. The ship did manage to get a bit of a graze on side but nothing that a quick lick of white paint wouldn't fix. Our ship is the largest sized ship that can currently go through the Panama Canal but that will obviously change when the new larger Canal opens in a few years' time. The age demographic on board was older with an average age I would say of 60. We only saw one child all week and we saw that the Childrens Activity was actually being decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and would love to go again.

We did a similar cruise two years ago. The Panama Canal was awesome. Nobody can prepare you for its beauty. The scenery was gorgeous.
