Unable to resist a last minute bargain we booked this four day Christmas Markets cruise on the QM2. It was our first time on this ship and our expectations were high. We were not disappointed! After a smooth embarkation we were wowed by the huge public areas around the atrium, all decorated beautifully for Christmas. Although it was only 11 December, the festivities had truly begun. Accommodation: Our cabin was an obstructed balcony on deck 8. Plenty of space and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine for sailaway. Flat screen TV with only basic channels. Molton Brown goodies in the bathroom. Slippers and robe provided. Dining: Main Dining Room first sitting a little early at 6 p.m. Steaks and beef dishes all pretty good and a nice selection of starters. Puds a disappointment, but could be my poor choices. A bottle of wine including tip was around $50 for a mid range wine Buffet: Although oddly laid out, the food on offer was excellent, particularly the joint of the day and the salads. We ate breakfast here too and my favourite smoked salmon was always available. Bars: Samuels coffee shop had a great atmosphere and is a good place to chill in the day. Our favourite bar was the Chart Room where we enjoyed Kir Royale and the odd Martini. We also liked the Commodore Club which had great views during the day and a party atmosphere by night. Ports: Bruges and Le Havre – both very festive Wi-Fi: Extortionate rates so we stayed off line Sea Conditions: Excellent, although on the last night we rolled around for about four hours in the channel. Entertainment: We enjoyed the piano in the Chart Room, the harpist, the string quartet and the jazz trio. We gave the theatre a miss as nothing tickled our fancy. The Queens Room looked fab, but as we don't dance, we gave that a miss too. Overall this was a great way of getting into the Christmas mood and would definitely do it again.

Would love to do a Christmas Market cruise, I would imagine the atmosphere on board would add to the Christmas feeling.

I agree that Honfleur is a really pretty place, especially in summer.

I've been considering a Christmas Markets trip on a river cruise but this gives me another idea! I have been to Bruges and LeHavre but in the summer and I can imagine Bruges in particular as being lovely. I remember LeHavre as being much more modern in design due to the rebuilding after the war but nearby Honfleur was delightful.
