I can only compare this cruise to two others taken on Saga Pearl II, and really on most counts it was not as good. The Filipino crew were marvellous, as always – constantly willing, smiling & pleasant: the officers, in the main, seemed far less interested in the passengers and generally gave the impression that they were just doing their job – from previous experience, we expected more. The Captain was conspicuous by his absence around the ship & the Cruise Director failed to act or look her part. The food was good, but we had to send 2 meals back (unheard of previously!). The cabins were spacious & very comfortable. The ship had recently suffered in a Force 12 storm, & had a great deal of damage to be repaired as a result. (The staff are to be commended that we only left one day late, as a result.) However, the exterior of the ship requires serious attention, & there were several breakdowns & one day we were without water in the bathroom, another night the bathroom cabinet fell off the wall, & the air conditioning/heating system was very poor. One point is that when the ship is at sea and the weather is unsuitable to be out on the decks, the indoor seating is inadequate when other items are being conducted in the lounges. Despite the ship being for over-50's, there are public areas that are decidedly unsafe, as the many accidents proved.
