My first cruise! I was a bit nervous especially since I was travelling on my own. On the first day we were "at sea" and so was I, in a manner of speaking. I was not sure where everything was and, as I am not particularly interested in the kind of entertainment on offer, I was beginning to wonder if this was the thing for me. Next day, however, it all changed: we went on our first excursion (Istanbul, which I thorougly enjoyed), I managed to get around the ship and quickly located restaurants, shops and so on. I even managed to make a friend: another lady who was also travelling by herself and with whom I ended up doing some excursions and going to the restaurant together. The excursions were very good, although in some places it would have been more interesting and cheaper to "do it alone". The food was plenty (endless supply) and I could have registered for unlimited drinks too (I had thought best not to). And the staff were amazing: all cabin and restaurant crew (mainly from the Philippines and Indonesia) were always so cheerful and helpful. All in all it was a very enjoyable week: being alone was never a problem (we go and sit with other people and everybody talks to everybody else) and I cannot wait to go on my next cruise! My only problem? Having to pay an extra £300.00 for single supplement! But I am told some companies do not apply this.
