What could have been a first rate cruise was marred by the greed of MSC and by poor service. In several ports they docked at a distance from the town centre and offered shuttle service which was virtually compulsory. It was necessary to queue for tickets and the staf at the excursion desks were at best cursory (at worst rude). Similarly the staff on the accounts desk were incompetent and unapologetic for errors. It was never their fault. The entertainment was third rate and dull. The children's activities consisted of colouring which is not particularly appealing to an 11 year old. Teen activities were cancelled without notice. This was a great shame as the Opera is a beautiful ship. The food was excellent and the staff who clean the cabins and serve in the bars and restaurants were without exception charming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. It is a shame that other staff could not learn from them.
