In a nutshell, no. The two islands we visited Santiago and St Vincent were unready for visitors, the infrastructure was 19th Century, the buildings crumbling or unfinished. No beautiful beaches, no palm trees, in fact they were not at all green. We were very disappointed with the islands we visited. It was not possible to tender to the third island due to choppy seas, to be fair we were not that bothered!

However, the cruise itself was very good indeed. The quality of food on Black Watch is one of the best we have experienced. The waiters and bar staff were very efficient and the shows in the theatre would stand up to any other cruise ship on the high seas!

The ports of call in Portugal, Tenerife and Lanzerote did not disappoint, however, passengers were pickpocketed in all the above venues, except Portamao in Portugal.

This was the first time we cruised with Fred Olsen and we would have no hesitation in recommending them as a good choice for no fly cruises, be prepared, however for very old people most of whom have at least one walking stick. You don't get from A to B very quickly on board and after meals, walking through the common bar/lounge areas is a little like visiting an old folks home.
