I love Clevedon beach front. It is great to stroll from the friendly Salthouse pub with its tasty meals to the iconic Pier, or further to Ladye Bay. True the beach is rocky and pebbly, but you can see over the Bristol channel to Wales and the path is sound and even. If you are not an outdoor swimmer like me, you can stand and watch the activities in the Marine Lake. Even in the middle of winter you will see swimmers, and sailing and SUP also go on – it’s a busy place, well loved. It’s run and maintained by volunteers. Further on is the Little Harp which has live music, then the bandstand, a local landmark. The path goes beneath the sailing club on to the Pier which strides out into the Bristol Channel. There is a good restaurant and small souvenir shop here. The pier has plaques with inscriptions bought by people finding the pier. If you want to extend your walk go on to Ladye Bay a small rocky cove and thence you can walk all the way to Portishead, quite an undertaking. For a shorter extension, try Poets’ Walk above the cliffs behind the Salthouse.
