The view alone is a reason for going to Pendennis Castle, encompassing the Fal River, the estuary, the town and St Mawes Castle opposite. History is covered from VIII’s reign to the second world war, from cannons guarding the castle walls to big guns in the camouflaged Half Moon Battery. The Tudor Keep is what you image a castle to look like, with audio visual experiences explaining how Tudor gunners loaded the cannons, though the spiral steps to the roof area may not be accessible to those with mobility problems. There are toilets near the entrance and also in the cafe area. If you have children in your group, there are outdoor play activities in the summer, plus events such as jousts occur on advertised days. If you join English Heritage you can also get in for free to other castles in Cornwall and the rest of the country. For more information see English Heritage description of Pendennis Castle
