Whilst on holiday in Turkey, on our Turkish gullet, we had the option to go to the mud baths. I initially thought of smelly mud located on the side of the river, and having to scramble on hands and knees to get out, as well as the problem of not having hot showers on the gullet, I thought this trip wouldn't be suitable. However the sales lady assured me I'd love it! A small Turkish wooden boat picked us up from our gullet, and soon we were enjoying the exquisite scenery of the river which wove its way towards Dalyan through the reed beds. Tiny birds flew in and out of the reeds, and we even saw a small turtle swimming beside us. In a short while of weaving through the reeds we arrived at our destination. We moored up and clambered out of the boat and walked to the mud baths. To my relief it looked very civilised. Inside the baths were four or five pool areas filled with mud of various aromas including rose, rosemary and other herbs. You had to be very careful when climbing into the pool, because it was slippery, but once in, it was your job to get covered in mud. We all looked hysterical, we then stepped out and lay on a marble slab to dry out. There were showers to wash off the mud, and it was your choice to then go into another herbal mud bath. We stayed for the afternoon, and by the end of it all, our skin felt so soft and youthful. It felt like I'd lost ten years of wrinkles!!!!!
