Easy, well marked walking routes on the Asturian and Cantabrian coasts in Spain are a wonderfully relaxing experience. You can stroll round beautiful capes affording sea views over small islands and beaches with golden sand. On your way, you can visit lighthouses and fortresses from dirrerent eras (Roman, Napoleon, Moorish etc.)

The topwalks.net presents tens of walks along the coast. Our two favourites are the Route of Lighthouses and Cliffs in Cantabria, www.topwalks.net/en/marismas_santona/santona.htm and the Route of Capes and Beaches in Asturias, www.topwalks.net/en/asturias_west_coast/playa_aguilar.htm.

The beaches are not crowded and many of them have an easy access, also to people with disabilites. Besides walks and bathing, the coast has intersting museums, like the Sider Museum, www.museodelasidra.com/.

The Traveling in Spain has an article in English on this museum, www.travelinginspain.com/asturias/nava.htm. The villages on the coast are very original. Cudillero with houses built on its semicircular rock walls is definitely worth visiting, www.cudillero.org/accommodation-rural-cudillero/english/inicio_67_1_ap.html. The atmosphere is much more peaceful and the prices more reasonable than on the Mediterranean coast. Also, the landscape stays green all year around. We really enjoy this place.
