I am booked to go on holiday in March travelling on a Monarch airlines flight. I read on their website that you can pre book more leg room seats in advance on payment of £8.99. As my husband suffers with cramps we thought this would be a good idea and so rang them to book. We were offered two seats together towards the front of the plane but were told they would cost an additional £21.99 each. When I queried the cost on line as £8.99 I was told that £8.99 only reserves two seats together and not extra leg room. This is not what it says on their website and seems to me that even travelling with your partner doesn't mean you will sit together unless you pay extra. I cannot understand how this benefits passengers or airlines and is not a service but a bit of a rip off I think.

We have since completed our holiday with our Monarch flight and have to say that we found it perfectly comfortable and were able to sit together without paying any additional costs. On the homebound flight we were given extra leg room seats anyway as the flight was not full, much to the chagrin of some fellow travellers who had paid a large top up fee to get 4 seats together with extra legroom. In the end we had no complaint at all and enjoyed our flights.

My experience was rather different. I booked online and found the pricing accurate and reasonably/competitively priced. I expect though that it might vary from flight to flight according to which airplane is in service - that's if Monarch use more than one type of aircraft?

I agreed. I travelled with Monarch Airlines once. There were lots of hidden extra. I don't like them.
