The Harte and Garter was one of the best located hotels in the country for Royal Watchers in that is (or was) directly opposite Windsor Castle. Sadly it has now closed down,not just for Covid but permanently. The site is not going to be empty for ever and there is clearly a demand for mid-range hotel accommodation in Windsor but at the moment there are no plans – try the Castle or Christopher Wren Hotels instead.

    The Castle Hotel is a nice hotel with good facilities, also very near the other Castle. I would put it a notch above the Harte and Garter. There isn't a Star and Garter - the only one I know is a home at the top of Richmond Hill. The other hotel I mentioned is the Sir christopher Wren which is in a mixture of buildings of various ages by the River Thames. You need to check which room and what facilities it has but it has more character.

    Please can you tell us a bit more about the Castle and the Star and Garter and why you woiuld recommend trying them.
