Hubby and I visited this caravan park for the first time in May 2019. Although this is a Parkdean resort, the majority of the caravans are privately owned and are rented through sites such as airbnb.

The site is situated towards one end of the main road through Borth. Although this is very easy to reach by road and very well signposted from the main roads, we arrived by train and walked to the site, which is approximately a mile from the station. So a far degree of fitness is required if you choose to arrive via this method.

The site starts off relatively level, but quickly changes into the hill from hell. As we had walked from the station with trolley cases, getting up the hill to our caravan, situated around two thirds of the way up the site, was unbelievably hard! It made us very reluctant to go down to the on site shop or the co-op store on the corner of the main road for supplies.

The majority of visitors had vehicles, and even these struggled to make it up the hill. My suggestion to anyone visiting the site is to check exactly where the caravan is situated. If it is more than a third of the way up the hill – get a taxi or use your car to get up and down. We consider ourselves relatively fit, but we really struggled.

The struggle is worth it however when sunset begins. The view from the top of the site, looking out over Cardigan Bay, is stunning. The sky turns a glorious red and orange and really takes your breath away – this is of course, supposing that you have any breath left after the climb up the hill!

As the caravans are privately owned, the facilities on offer in each one are varied so ensure you check what is provided before booking. Our caravan had plenty of kitchen equipment and gadgets but no private internet access was provided. Also, there were no sheets, pillowcases our duvet covers.

One thing we particularly enjoyed was the microclimate. We visited at a time when most of the UK was suffering floods and high winds, but in Borth, the weather was very calm and very surprising.

We loved Borth itself. There is very little here. No major tourist attractions, no entertainment centers, etc but if you are searching for somewhere with plenty of peace and quiet, this is your place.

To sum up the site, check exactly where the caravan is situated and what facilities are provided. Don’t visit Borth if you need organised entertainment but do visit if you are happy to enjoy the peace and quiet and fabulous sunsets. It is also very well situated as a base for trips to nearby Aberystwth.
