Having managed to squeeze into the tiny car park of the Villa Fortuna in Mostar, we headed for reception where passports were photocopied, and we were told breakfast was from 8am to 10am. We were handed a room key and told that it also acted as a key to the front door of the nearby apartment block that our room was in. It was a pretty cursory welcome with no information about the garden or stone house which we’d read about on the website, nor was there a welcome drink that reviewers on Trip Advisor had mentioned.

Our room, 6, was on the second floor of the 6-room block. It was modern, large and bright. It had a three-seater sofa, coffee table, grey wooden flooring, attractive rugs and double bed with flowery headboard. There was a large wall mounted TV with wardrobe and shelving both in grey wood.

The bathroom was a really good size with walk-in shower, basin, loo and bidet. Unfortunately, the shower was open on one side which despite being careful, meant a wet bathroom floor. A decent hairdryer plugged in some way from the mirror.
There was no safe, mini bar/fridge or tea and coffee making facilities but there was AC, which wasn’t necessary during our visit, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Breakfast was served on the ground floor of our apartment block. It was very simple with cornflakes and muesli, a fruit bowl, yoghurt, a selection of cold meats, cheese, cucumber, tomato and olives. Eggs were also on offer and there was cake to enjoy with the decent coffee. At 8am, it was a relatively late start, and everyone arrived at once, and on one morning, it was exceptionally busy and very noisy.

Overall it was a rather strange stay and it didn’t really feel like a hotel.
