This is a very large hotel on the edge of the old town and overlooking the gardens of Parcu N Tiulescu across the busy main road. It is within easy walking distance of most of the attraction in Brasov. It has just over 200 rooms but feels a lot larger.

The entrance and reception hall is huge with plenty of comfortable chairs. The light and airy restaurant is off. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful and provided an excellent map of Brasov to explore by yourself.

I had a large and rather bland room with two single beds and a large work area with mini bar below and large flat screen TV above. Although hotel details indicated there was kettle in the room, there wasn’t and there was no water either apart from the minibar. This was charged at €1,50 a bottle which was expensive compared with elsewhere.

There were two chairs and a small table by the window. This opened onto a small balcony which overlooked a rather scruffy area of the old town which was undergoing restoration.

The a large bathroom had the usual selection of shampoos and soap. The over the bath shower had such a force of water that it got the bathroom floor very wet despite my best efforts with the shower curtain. The bath mat was soaked and I ended up using a hand towel on the floor. The bath towel was a bit thin and had been washed with too much fabric conditioner which meant it didn’t dry very well. At least there was a bath robe provided.

Breakfast was excellent – everything from champagne to sushi. There was a good choice of proper fruit juice which was a welcome change from the squash like offerings in many hotels in Romania. There was a good choice of cereals and lots of fresh fruit and yogurts. There was a wide choice of cold meats, cheese, fish and plenty of salad. The hot selection was hot and had everything you could possibly imagine including deep fried breaded mushrooms, assorted fritters (good and very more-ish), mini pizzas, eggs in all forms, sausage, bacon… There was a good choice of rolls, bread and croissants as well as cakes. The problem was deciding what to choose. At least I had two days to work my way through everything on offer, although I did give the champagne and sushi a miss.

The hotel does get a lot of coach groups and the dining room can get very busy if there are large groups in. There are plenty of staff on duty and they are quick to clear tables.

This is like many large international style hotels and is very comfortable although possibly lacking in local character. It is reasonably priced. If staying here, don’t miss the restaurant and bar area on the top floor with its marvellous views across Brasov.
