My daughter (23) was going to Australia for a year. We are very close, so I wanted to give her a special treat, just before she left for her trip.

I chose the Stanley House Hotel, in Mellor, Lancashire. It is situated in the beautiful Ribble Valley area. If you love the countryside, then this is the place! The hotel is set in 54 acres, and the views are superb.

The rooms are very spacious, beautifully designed, and with all mod cons. The beds were really comfy too.

Now we had settled in, my daughter decided to use the amazing spa. It is one of the most fabulous spas I have seen. Let the pampering begin! Fully re-vitalized, after an array of treatments, we chilled out for a while, then changed for the evening.

The food really impressed us! Each course was cooked to perfection, and the choice was excellent. You could not fault anything, and the desserts were to die for!
We had such a fabulous time, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys the finer things in life. It’s not that expensive either. The staff were all really friendly, and we were made to feel really welcome. It’s a thumbs up from me! :)

You have whetted my appetite - please can you tell us more about the room, what it is like and what extras there were in it? Did it have wifi? Also what are the towels like? I have a 'thing' about towels and it often surprises me that really upmarket hotels can be let down by the quality of their towels.

Do tell us about the impressive food and what you ate - that is half the fun of reviews, reading about the food! What were quantities like and how long did you have to wait for your meal?

And finally - what about breakfast. I do love my traditional cooked breakfast. What was on offer? Was it freshly cooked to order or was it kept hot with self service? Did it set you up for the day? If I have a big breakfast, I don't have to worry about lunch!
